Our Story

2014

The idea of cell-based 3D bioprinting to create mineralized scaffolds emerged in Ralph Müller's Laboratory of Bone Biomechanics at ETH Zürich.

2017

The first organotypic bone model was successfully printed and grown from stem cells.

2020

We created the first diseased organotypic bone models from osteoblasts of a patient with Osteogenesis Imperfecta. This paved the way for reliable in vitro models for developing more effective treatments for this patient group.

2022

As part of an iPostdoc PHRT, we elevated our impact by increasing Bon3OID™ production capacity.

The first organotypic bone models that integrate osteoclasts were developed. This enhanced capabilities for testing drugs on the full bone remodelling process, and enabled fracture risk assessment.

2023

A team was put together, and CompagOs was incorporated to translate the scientific progress into valuable assets for researchers, doctors, patients, and the healthcare system.

We introduced organotypic bone models containing osteosarcoma cells, which improved capabilities of drug efficacy testing in patients with osteosarcoma.

Future Plans

Our future plans include developing in vitro diagnostic tools for the early detection of bone metastasis and osteoporosis using patients' blood samples, while also advancing regenerative medicine solutions to recreate a patient's bone tissue in severe cancerous and traumatic conditions.
